My eyes narrowed, what was this... I'd never been but I'd lived in the city all my life, take a good eight years. Cops don't make that kind of money, water... I order water, I pay my half. "Nawh I haven't, aint much for dating ya know." I admited with a laugh. "Should I come back and change or just meet you when I'm done with the film." I didn't know how fancy this was gonna be, forgive me if I'm not exactly cultured.

"Meet me when you're done with the film. You don't have to change."
I had to peek under the door. I could barely see him leaning back on the bed on his elbows with his shirt off. Most guys forgo shirts because they can...Dad did it because of his wings. Shirts just get in the way.
The spider had crawled up on the bedpost.

I laughed a bit. "Sure thing, your on." I leaned on the fridge and smiled like a teenage girl. "I'll uh see you then Peacock." I told him not really wanting to get off the phone but at the same time not really knowing what to say next. "Um... anywho it is kinda sorta getting late." He probably had to work tomorrow night, heck I had to work tomorrow night no use in wasting sleeping time.

"Aw, you'll be back before midnight, Red, don't worry." Dad was in a good mood. I could hear it in his voice. "I'll see you there."

So after the chewing out, and the payment I walked over to Diva's and I was all nerves. What the heck was I doing here? What right did the city's protector have to a love life? It'd only complicate things. But I'd wanted this for a long time, and I kissed him not the other way around. I couldn't back out now.

Sarta knew that the next time he would take her here, he would be dressed much better and have a little box in his jacket pocket.
But that night he waited outside the restaurant in ordinary jeans and a nice shirt. There was no ring, but he'd just gotten paid and could still remember what their kiss felt like in the diner's.
He knew her by her walk--it was distinguishable in all the time he'd known her. Her silhouette, the way her frizz was made into a halo by the streetlamp behind her, was the only one that mattered in the parking lot. To him, she was everything. It was his own stupid mistake that had kept them apart for so long, so needlessly.
He smiled and opened his arms for a hug. "Hey, Red. How was your day?"

I was wearing an old dress, it wasn't fancy, but it was the only one I owned and I hated the shoes, but well it was our first date sacrafices could be made. I leaned into his arms and I could smell his collonge. I loved it, spice and humidity made me want to linger there for a moment. "Hey Peacock, It was alright... you look good." I said pulling back so I could see and indeed he did look good, but that wasn't a surprise. "Um... well, should we go in?" I had no idea what to do, I'd never actually been on a date... not in the traditonal since atleast.

He took her hand and led her in. Her hands were calloused from fighting and her time in Thailand, but so were his, with the wear and tear of a police officer's career. What appealed to him was that she was warm, and their two calloused, hard-working hands had closed on each other. He barely even paid attention to the hostess as she led them back to the window seat he requested earlier. He was too concerned about Rain's nervousness.
His lips brushed her ear. "C'mon, this is meant to be fun. You look beautiful, by the way."

I blushed and my face was alight with the heat. There was a chill, how did he always do that? I nodded giving his hand a squeeze, yeah I'd be alright. "Thank you." I said remembering that once apon a time my mother taught me manners.
Everything was so beautiful, the window showed the glorious city I loved from day one, in a way I had never seen it before. "How was yer day Peacock? Bet Em is excited." Loved that daughter of his, she had spunk, nobody was ever gonna push that girl around.

Sarta laughed, still holding her hand on the table. "She thinks I'm a bloomin' idiot for not doing this sooner. And it was good, actually. I didn't have any problems with drivers except one, and that was nothing new. What about yours?"

I shrugged laughing a bit, yeah that was Em. "Well, got gipt again on my photos but whatever." I eyed our hands for a moment, it was kinda nice sitting here with him like this, I was glad I didn't chicken out. "Its really nice Sarta." I said rarely using his first name. "You know Tony's gonna give you a hard time about this right?"

His hands were warm, as were his lips, I leaned into his palm maybe on instict, maybe from need, didn't much care. What had we been talking about? Tony, the kids? Whatever it was didn't matter next to this. I was biting my lip, the sight of Mendebras entering my mind I closed my eyes, what would he think? What would Mendebras think of the man I always held in such high regard? Did it matter what he thought? "Sarta," I said swallowing hard, "Are you trying to make me forget about dinner?"

Sarta grinned. "Of course. It comes faster when you're not thinking about it. Here, I'll prove it." He scooted his chair to her side of the table.

I eyed him a bit wondering what he was up to, a smile sliding up on my face. I could stand to forget about dinner.
