I am supposed to be doing my classes, but the orientation is heavy on video tutorials and the Dial up is as slow as ever so I'm killing the time between downloads... cause I can.
Now, Ladies and Gentlemen. Where would we be without commercialism? For that matter, what is this evil thing, this dark word that we have somehow been told to hate by the very same people employing its horrific powers?
Simply put in its intended original meaning, it is the practices, methods, aims, and spirit of commerce or business. Today, however, it primarily refers to the tendency within capitalism to turn everything into objects, images, and services sold for the purpose of generating profit. Thats it. Thats what is pissing everyone off.
Now I ask, and pardon me if I over step my bounds. What is so bad with that? Why shouldn't we get something in return for giving something that we have? Its only simple economics, a service is given and money for services rendered. All very simple really. And why shouldn't we want more? Why shouldn't we want better, isn't that the evolutionary spirit that drives all beings? Why shouldn't we want more power? Why shouldn't we want bigger things? Isn't that what God himself wanted for us.
We are animals and just like animals we want to secure our place, our genetic gene pool and our lives, where as an animal searches for sticks, twigs, rocks and things to build a den to protect it's children, we build up an account, we save and save and spend and spend caring for these children we bring into the world and for it they are safe and healthy.
So again where would we be without commercialism? I see no problem with advertisement, its a good trade, an honest trade no matter who says otherwise. And it works. If I had a computer to sell to you, you would have to be convinced of its worth wouldn't you?
Commercialism can also refer to the domination of things by business/corporate interests, or the exploitation of intangible things for private gain.
That is what Wikipidia says... so lets look at this from my angle. Religion is a corporation, we Christians are businessmen of faith trying to sell the world on the word of the one true God. Its the same with Communist, most actually believe they're right and they are salesmen of Karl Marx's ideas. Democrats are clerks of they're policy as well as Republicans. Are these things tangible? No, I can not physically hold faith in my hand and say that I have it.
The Free Market, what is that? A free market is a theoretical term that economists use to describe a market which is free from government intervention. Just like our right to bare arms it is supposed to be unhindered and unleashed, unrestrained. You all better open your eyes, open your eyes before its too late. The Free Market is not the enemy, it is not the dragon. While we have never had a free market, because business is always regulated (with good reason mostly) A Free Market allows for competition, it allows for Joe Blow to sell the exact same thing as Joe Blow Inc. for a better price, and he goes home to his children with meat on the table.
The Free Market is good. It allows for businessmen to feel the heat, to always try and be better then the guy next door selling the exact same thing to the exact same people. It drives people to be better, to sell better things, to make better money. So why should it be protected?
Simply because the government that has more power, rules people who have less. So, now we have business in debt and owned to and by the a governing party, who makes the money?
The government.
Where does the money go.
To the government.
Who reaps the benefits? Is it the downtrodden working class poor Americana?
NO!
It is the real dragon, the real snake, that politician who likes his home in DC and his fancy cars and his high class whores.
The capitalist is a wolf. It is a wolf with the guts, the know how and the will to get what needs to be done, done for the survival of himself, his company and his family. The communist is a well fed pup, he's fat and content with scraps from the master's table and the master beats him, but this well fed pup never leaves because he's too fat to move.
Where would we be without wolves? I'm not angry with the CEO, after all one should be paid for the job they do and it's importance, I am angry with the people who cry out "What about us?!"
What about you?
If you want something, go out and get it. Stop waiting for someone to give it to you.
So if it is greedy to be a capitalist, if it is greedy to believe in the Free Market and commercialism then I say in the worlds of Gordon Gekko from the movie Wall Street.
"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.
Greed is right.
Greed works.
Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good."
And yes it is a sin this greed. But everyone has it, everyone uses it and no one can cast the first stone. So if you never tried to sell an idea off on someone, or object or service then sure you can tell me all about the evils of Commercialism, if you never got a fair price on a service you can tell me the evils of the Free Market, if you never got paid for an honest days work then go ahead talk to me about that demon Capitalism... if you have done and gotten all this well then shut up and enjoy the system.
